A major cruise line has decided to cancel port stops at a popular Caribbean destination, citing safety concerns. Celebrity Cruises will no longer make stops at Labadee, Haiti, for the rest of 2025 and in 2026, according to Travel + Leisure. This decision affects 11 different itineraries on the Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Beyond cruise ships. Instead, the cruise line will make stops in Turks and Caicos, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, Mexico. All passengers on affected sailings have been notified, and a full list of itinerary modifications is available on the Celebrity Cruises website.
This isn't the first time a cruise line has avoided Labadee, Haiti. Royal Caribbean also announced last month that it would cancel its sailings to the port until at least May 2026, due to gang violence and political instability in the country. The U.S. State Department issued a "Level 4: Do Not Travel" advisory in September 2024, warning travelers about kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and limited healthcare in Haiti. The advisory specifically mentions Labadee as a high-risk area.
The decision to cancel port stops at Labadee highlights the ongoing safety concerns in the region. Cruise lines are taking a cautious approach, prioritizing the safety of their passengers and crew. As travel conditions in Haiti remain uncertain, it's likely that other cruise lines will follow suit, avoiding Labadee until the situation improves.
