They're INSANELY busy right now thanks to...well...you know what's going on.
I'd just keep screenshots of your cancellation and the dates involved and watch your payment method.
Worst case Ontario, if you do get charged again, just address it directly with your bank or cc company. They'll take care of ya.

It shouldn't require a 3rd party to terminate our account. This is done to basically fluff numbers and have it look like more people are supporting the site than there are.

You're right that it shouldn't require a 3rd party to terminate an account. It's a choice they've made for some reason.
However, I think ascribing number-fluffing deception as that reason falls pretty firmly under speculation.
Personally, I really think there's a lot less mustache-twirling, maniacal laughter, and Scrooge McDuck-style gold swimming than the fan base is currently imagining at Hasbro/WotC :)
Of course, I could be way off base on that.

It would only be appropriate if this version of Scrooge McDuck was wearing VR goggles and diving into a VR warehouse filled with platinum, gold, silver, copper pieces and gemstones. However the more realistic version of this VR warehouse would be filled with electrum pieces.

I don't understand why so many people are demanding their accounts be deleted. Just walk away. If you have no money invested and do not have a subscription, just don't come back. Why internet rage that they won't delete your account. Who cares? Leaving an inactive account that is never used is going to waste their backend database and cost them more to maintain. You don't have to give any attention to this service and they're still paying to host that data they had. It may be miniscule but if everyone griping about deleting their account just walked away, dndbeyond would be on the hook for maintaining those accounts with never a hope of making income from them.
If you want to affect them, cancel your paid subscription like the rest of us that are voting with our wallets.

I doubt account deletion is a metric they are paying attention to since it has little to no monetary amount associated with it. Plus it's creating a backlog of support tickets the lower level grunt workers have to work through, all the while that grunt worker is probably sad that their passion job is going up in flames because of poor upper management decisions.
